Memories

I spent most of my Saturday doing a chore I'd been putting off for the last 2 years, I finally decided to clear out my e-mail box of all the junk and non relevant e-mail that had been sat building up since 2006. It turned out to be quite an emotional thing to do, which surprised me a little. I was quite amazed at how many good and bad memories were brought back going through my inbox. I thought I'd share one of the good ones with you below.

Back in 2005 I went and spent a day at Marwell Zoo with my camera taking photographs. I ended up spending quite a bit of the day photographing three tiger cubs, I couldn't help it they were so cute. After a while I was joined by someone who I took to be another visitor like me. As we were both taking pictures we started chatting about the cubs and I showed her one of the photographs I'd taken with the three cubs together. It was at this point that the lady introduced herself as the press officer for the zoo and asked if I wouldn't mind sending them a copy of the picture, it turned out it was the first shot she had seen with all three cubs together. Once I got home I e-mailed the shot across with my details and thought nothing of it. About a month later I was contacted and asked if I minded the photograph being used in an advert by the zoo in a local magazine to which I agreed.

Over the next couple of months I forgot about the image, then one morning I received a large envelope from Marwell. Suspecting it to be junk mail I was pleasantly surprised when I opened it and read the covering letter. Marwell had decided that they were going to use the image on a family tree display they had for the tigers bread at the zoo. They explained it would be added to the display and I would be credited. At the time I'd only been taking photographs for just under a year and this was the first time I'd ever had anything published.

The magazine page was in one of the last e-mails I got to in my e-mail box, while the photograph isn't great the setup of the subjects make it and it still brings a smile to my face.
